The Government has announced its plans to end the sale of petrol and diesel cars by 2030 and hybrids by 2035, to try to meet their earlier overall target of net zero emissions for all road transport by 2050. They have also announced that all new installations are to include electric vehicle charging points. To help achieve their aims, the Government are providing grants to make electric vehicle ownership more affordable by offsetting the costs of installing charge points in the home, on streets or workplaces. This EV Installation course can enhance a qualified electricians services they offer

This course is intended for practicing electricians as part of the assessment for this qualification, learners must hold one of the following:

• 2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)
• 2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance)
• 5357 Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification
• 2356 Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker
• 2346 Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification
• Other Awarding Organisations equivalences will also be acceptable
• Equivalent historical qualifications (see EAS Table 4B/4C) EAS Qualifications guide December 2020 (theiet.org)
or
• ECS Gold Card, JIB Electrician or Approved Electrician Card

The qualifications above must have been achieved no more than 5 years prior to starting this qualification or there must be evidence the candidate has remained current by holding a current 18th Edition Bs 7671 qualification

As a result, there has been a yearly increase in the demand for electric car charging points, which is not only good news for the environment, but presents a great opportunity for electricians nationwide. This qualification has been designed to provide you with the knowledge and understanding to work on Electric Vehicle charging equipment installation.

 

Course Overview

 

At Amplo training, we offer the following course:

 

2921-31 City & Guilds Level 3 Award in the Design and Installation of Domestic and Small Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Installations

 

You will attain theoretical knowledge and the practical skills to design, install, inspect, test and fault find electric vehicle charging points. This 2 day course is aimed at fully qualified installers. This course will not only allow them to become competent in the domestic setting but also commercial installations.

 

This course covers:

  • The design, installation, inspection and test and fault finding of electric vehicle charging points both for the domestic and commercial/industrial sectors
  • Different types and characteristics of Electric Vehicle available
  • Specific modes of charging and safety requirements and restrictions
  • Requirements for the electrical installation – Supply, protection for safety, earthing requirements, planning permission, control and risk assessment
  • Skills required for the practical installation of EV charging points for the domestic and commercial markets
  • The inspection, testing and certification including the related DNO paperwork
  • Fault Finding and system checks
  • The use of vehicles as electrical energy storage systems as part of prosumer’s installations.

The 2921-31 is a 2 day course for those practising within the electrical industry and is classroom based.

 

There are 3 delivery options available at Amplo training:

 

Option 1 – Full time weekdays

This will be delivered for 2 consecutive weekdays from 9:00am – 4pm (Mon – Fri)

 

Option 2 – Evenings

This will be delivered for 4 evenings over 2 consecutive weeks from 6:00pm – 9pm (Mon & Wed)

 

Option 3 – Weekends

This will be delivered over 2 full days from 9:30am – 4:30pm (Sat – Sun)

 

During these sessions you will cover all of the above aspects as well as the statutory and non-statutory requirements, the health and safety requirements and a basic understanding of renewable technologies.

 

We will also be preparing you for the online examination and practical assessments for the course. You will be required to complete 2 separate assessments (practical and online exam) to gain the qualification. These assessments consist of:

 

  • Practical Assessments:

 

  • Task 1 – Scenario based questions

  • Task 2 – Written short answer question paper

 

  • Multiple online exam

 

To help you prepare for these assessments, you will be working through the recommended course books and be provided with the necessary notes and sample questions/timed mock tests. We feel this approach will help provide you with the opportunity to become conversant with both the theoretical and practical elements of the course and enable you to perform confidently throughout the assessments.
